The species of wood used to craft all of our products are considered among the best woods in the world. Great majority of them come from Argentina and Brazil and are NOT considered to be endangered. In fact, most of these species with the exception of Green Ironwood and Zebrawood do come from plantations where sustainability is the top priority.
Black Ironwood:
Origin: North of Argentina
Botanical Name: Prosopis Nigra
Weight: 53lb/cubic ft
Characteristics: This is an extremely dense and stable wood. The Black Ironwood tree grows to approximately 35 to 40 feet in height and takes anywhere from 20 to 75 years to be harvested. Besides its furniture use, the tree generates a very popular fruit that is used to feed cattle and to make a special type of flour.
Black Ironwood makes for over 70% of our collections. Grown in our own plantations, this wood has a reputation among cabinet makers to be one of the finest dense woods in existence. The reason for this are the depth of its beautiful grain, the uniformity of its color and most specially the lack of knots and cracks in its surface.
Green Ironwood:
Origin: Northeast of Argentina, Paraguay, and Southwest of Brazil.
Botanical Name: Tabebuia avellanedae
Weight: 78lb/cubic ft
Characteristics: This is one of the densest and most beautiful woods that we craft. Green ironwood tree grows to approximately 45 to 60 feet in height and takes anywhere from 30 to 80 years to be harvested. The grain of this wood has a natural olive green color with some 3D diamond grain across its surface.
Green Ironwood makes for less than 2% of our collections.
This is an extremely difficult and hard wood to work with. Not only it requires special type of tooling but also its natural characteristics make it difficult to kiln dry.
Patagonian Cherry
Origin: South of Argentina
Botanical Name: Nothofagus pumilio
Weight: 40lb/cubic ft
Characteristics:
This wood is light chestnut in color with yellow, pink and green lines through it. The grain is uniform and attractive. The wood is fairly light in weight and a real pleasure to work with.
This is a very resistant wood to the humidity and outdoors, ideal for fine details in furniture. The lenga reaches up to 90 feet in height. It grows in a variety of areas, normally in shallow soil requiring low temperatures for its development. The products crafted with this wood are nothing but exquisite pieces of furniture to be enjoyed for generations.

Brazilian Lyptus
Origin: South East of Brazil
Botanical Name: Lyptus®
Weight: 0.64 kg./ cubic meter
Characteristics: Lyptus® is a premium plantation-grown hardwood from Brazil. A natural hybrid of Eucalyptus grandis and E. urophylla, Lyptus® features many desirable characteristics, including exceptional workability, machining properties, density, finish tolerance and overall strength. This makes it well-suited for diverse high-end applications like furniture, cabinets, flooring and architectural millwork.
Building with Lyptus® is a wise environmental choice. Wood is produced using proprietary technology in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner. Eucalyptus is grown on very productive plantations, where stands of indigenous trees are interspersed to preserve natural habitat. Wood can be harvested in just 14 to 16 years - much faster then other premium hardwoods grown in colder climates - ensuring reliable supplies throughout the foreseeable future.
Several of our Nativa Casa collections use this wood.
